Sustainability

At Tijax the spaces have been managed according to  environmental protection guidelines creating the necessary conditions  for agricultural and tourist activities to develop with a minimal impact on the forests.  Eco tourism is a form of recreation  promoted on a world scale by the environmental awareness that has emerged in the recent years.  Eco tourism is also one of the most important sources of income for the country in the past years.  With this in mind we have offered quality services while preserving the natural landscape and resources of the region.  We have created a model for our neighbors to follow where we have done away with slash and burn, hunting and other predatory activities while providing  an environment  suited to the survival of native species, the recovery of habitat for plants and animals, some of which are on the endangered list:  nutria,  herons, ant eaters, kinkajew, and Moreletti crocodiles are but a few examples.

In this way the establishment of the canopy tour, the jungle lodge, the rubber plantation, and collateral services such as horseback riding, sailing, kayaking  have had the underlying philosophy of conservation.  We see these as  models of development for the entire region.  This ensemble can provide an integral vision of a way to generate progress while preserving the environment in a harmonious fashion.

Hacienda Tijax is a founding member of ECORIO, a local nonprofit Association that acts as a regional environmental watch dog.
