Hotel Playa Sand Bay overlooks a beautiful white sand beach just a short boat ride from Puerto Barrios.  The hotel features a series of ocean-front bungalows, some with private bathrooms and AC.  Hotel guests are entitled to use of the private beach, kayaks, water trampoline and volleyball court.  There is often live music and other fun events at the beach, and the sunsets are unforgettable.  Sand Bay is available for rental for weddings and other big events, and is also perfect for a family getaway or a romantic weekend.  Sand Bay is locally owned and operated and the owners -Juan and Vilma- can often be found enjoying the beach with their guests and family.

Getting here:  From Livingston or Puerto Barrios you can take a public boat from the municipal dock which costs 30Q, just ask them to drop you off at Sand Bay.  From Puerto Barrios you can also go to street #19 at the water’s edge and take Sand Bay’s private boat which costs 20Q per person.  If you want to take Sand Bay’s boat just call 5502-9834.

Activities 

The owners are happy to arrange boat trips to visit local attractions, tours of the Bay, fishing trips, and other activities. They have kayaks available along with a volleyball court and there is often live music and dancing.   

Sustainability

  • The owners are involved in the local solid waste committee, and also clean the beach daily.
  • All of the ingredients used in the restaurant are bought from local fishermen or from the local market. 
  • They try to minimize their use of water since water comes from 2 kilometers away through pipes, so they are always very careful with their use of water.
