The Izabal region abounds with opportunities to buy unique handicrafts and souvenirs.  From hand-made coconut shell jewelry to large drums used to play traditional music like punta, you are sure to find something wonderful to take home with you.  Many shore excursions feature stops in Livingston, a charming Caribbean village with plenty of local vendors offering their handicrafts for sale.  In addition, the cruise ship terminal features a large arts and crafts fair along with live music by various traditional groups.  This fair is free to enter, and buying things helps support the local economy.  Be sure to avoid purchasing crafts made from animals such as star fish or turtle shells and try to buy from local merchants rather then large stores.  Bargaining is common but don't expect to lower the price more then a few dollars.  At some establishments, prices might be firm.

Tours

The fair in the cruise terminal is free for passengers, but if you take an excursion that includes Livingston, expect to pay around $40-50 US.  The price for crafts can vary greatly- from as little as $1 to $50 or $100 for more elaborate and larger pieces.
