Ak’Tenamit Organization
| Location: | Izabal |
Ak' Tenamit is an indigenous community development organization based in the rainforests of eastern Guatemala (Río Dulce, Izabal) that promotes long-term solutions to poverty through programs in health, education and family incomes- run by and for the Q'eqchi Maya.
Ak´Tenamit counts on international professional volunteers to help accomplish its mission. The number of volunteers working at the project varies from time to time, but reasonable estimate is 10 volunteers involved at various levels.
Time Commitment/Costs:
Ak´Tenamit prefers a minimum commitment of six months, or three months as a clinic volunteer, and a working knowledge of Spanish. Volunteers receive room (a moderate sized “room” in the volunteer “galera”) and board (three meals a day, seven days a week consisting in rice, beans and “tortillas”), but are responsible for their travel to and from Guatemala and for any personal expenses.
How to Apply:
